Taxi Pricing Guide
Learn how to calculate fair taxi fares and set profitable rates for your taxi business.
Understanding Taxi Fare Components
Most taxi fares consist of three main components. TaxiMeter Pro allows you to customize each component based on your local market.
1. Base Fare
The initial charge when a passenger enters your taxi. This covers the cost of the trip, vehicle wear and tear, and business overhead.
Typical range: LKR 50-200 (varies by region)
2. Distance Rate (Per KM)
Charged for each kilometer traveled. This is the main revenue component reflecting actual distance and fuel consumption.
Typical range: LKR 40-150 per km (varies by region and vehicle type)
3. Waiting Time Rate (Per Minute)
Charged when the vehicle is idle or moving slowly in traffic. TaxiMeter Pro automatically detects waiting time.
Typical range: LKR 1-5 per minute (usually 50-70% of distance rate)
Fare Calculation Formula
Total Fare = Base Fare + (Distance × Rate/KM) + (Waiting Time × Rate/Min)
TaxiMeter Pro calculates this in real-time as you drive, automatically detecting when to apply waiting time charges.
